What are Zonegram Capsules?

Zonegram is a prescription anticonvulsant medication prescribed to treat epilepsy or reduce seizures in dogs and cats. Seizures are involuntary and may cause changes in movement, behaviour, or consciousness.

Why do cats and dogs use Zonegram?

Veterinarians may prescribe Zonegram to treat seizure disorders such as epilepsy. Epilepsy is a neurological disorder in which the electrical activity of the brain is disturbed causing seizures. Seizures are involuntary and may cause changes in movement, behaviour, or consciousness. Zonegram may be given in combination with other anticonvulsant drugs.

What else should I know about Zonegram?

Prescription medication. May be used alone or in conjunction with other anticonvulsant medications to control symptoms of epilepsy. Often used as an initial treatment for epilepsy. Wear gloves when handling Zonegram. Your veterinarian may ask you to keep a seizure diary to help them determine the effectiveness of the Zonegram.

What problems could my dog or cat have with Zonegram?

Do not stop giving Zonegram abruptly or without talking to your veterinarian as rebound seizures may occur. Liver damage is a rare, but serious, side effect of Zonisamide. Contact your veterinarian immediately if your dog or cat stops eating, becomes overly tired, or develops jaundice (yellowing of skin, gums or whites of eyes). Zonegram may cause heart defects in puppies whose mothers took Zonegram while pregnant.

How do you use Zonegram?

Zonegram may be given with or without food. Follow your veterinarian's directions. Wear gloves when handling Zonegram. Pregnant women and nursing mothers should handle Zonisamide with caution. Zonegram may cause birth defects and can transfer to breast milk.

What is in Zonegram?

Zonegram contains zonisamide. The drug Zonisamide is an anticonvulsant that blocks certain channels on nerve cells.
