Commonly asked questions about Palladia Tablets:

What are Palladia Tablets?

Palladia is a prescription chemotherapy drug used to treat mast cell tumours. The drug in Palladia is Toceranib. Why do dogs use Palladia? Palladia is prescribed to treat Patnaik grade II or III, recurrent, cutaneous mast cell tumours with or without regional lymph node involvement in dogs.

What else should I know about Palladia?

Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) interact with Palladia and should be used with caution. There are several other drugs that can affect the metabolism of Palladia including fluconazole, clarithromycin, and verapamil (just to name a few). It is important to inform your pet's veterinarian of all medications, including over the counter drugs, before starting Palladia.

What problems could my dog have with Palladia?

Palladia should not be used in female breeding, pregnant, or lactating dogs. Its use should be cautioned in dogs under two years of age and those weighing less than 5kg. Palladia should be discontinued at least three days before surgery, if possible. The most common side effects of Palladia include diarrhoea, decreased appetite, lameness, weight loss, and bloody stools. If your dog experiences severe diarrhoea or bleeding you should contact the veterinarian immediately.

How do you use Palladia?

Palladia may be given with or without food. Follow your veterinarian's directions. Wear gloves when handling Palladia. Never crush, break, or split the Palladia tablets. If there is a broken or moistened tablet in the bottle, handle all tablets left in the bottle with gloves on. Palladia can be found in your dog’s stools, vomit, and urine, so you should always wear gloves while cleaning up after your dog while on Palladia. Keep Palladia out of the reach of your pets and children. If you are pregnant, nursing, or may become pregnant, take extra caution when handling Palladia tablets if you must administer them.

What is in Palladia?

The drug in Palladia, Toceranib Phosphate, is a tyrosine kinase inhibitor. Toceranib helps stunt the growth and spreading of tumours. It can also help cut off the blood supply to the tumour.
